A few years ago, no one was all that interested in My Little Pony, or even knew what bronies were. But now that the brony and MLP: FIM (which stands for My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic, its tagline) have been permanently integrated into our lexicon, Rule 34 of the Internet dictates that it must be made into a porn. Thankfully (or woefully, depending on your perspective), someone has done just that: Adult performer Tasha Reign’s latest film, Tasha’s Pony Tales, is being touted as the world’s first mainstream My Little Pony porn (trailer fairly SFW).
Released last month, Tasha’s Pony Tales tells the story of Tasha and her three friends (played by Rikki Six, Jessa Rhodes, and Cameron Dee), who drink a magic potion at a sleepover and are transported to Magic Pony Cloud Land, where they’re transformed into ponies (which is made clear thanks to Reignbow Pony Plugs, Reign’s sex toy line of anal plugs that tie in with the movie).
In Magic Pony Cloud Land, Tasha and her friends discover that if they obtain “unicorn love juice” from the centaurs who currently reign over the kingdom, they can stay ponies forever. How do they obtain the centaurs’ love juice? Your guess is as good as mine! (Actually, it isn’t. I watched the movie in its entirety, so I know that they get it from having sex with them.)
While admittedly light on plot, Tasha’s Pony Tales is one of the most charmingly bizarre adult films I’ve ever seen (the multicolored tails in particular are totally adorable). While it certainly seems to live up to its reputation as “the adult industry’s first-ever brony-themed movie,” it’s not quite that: Reign says she was inspired to make it after reading Anne Rice’s Sleeping Beauty trilogy. “It’s all about pony play and this whole kingdom and these princesses that are all dressed as horses, and I thought it was the sexiest book I ever read,” she says.
Reign launched her pony plug line (they come in four colors: yellow, pink, blue, and purple) as an homage to Rice’s series, and Tasha’s Pony Tales was conceived as a tie-in to the sex toy product. But Reign admits that she was inspired in large part by My Little Pony, and by a desire to tap into the brony market.
“I love the idea of there being an adult version of My Little Pony, bringing people back to the nostalgia of being a fan of the show,” she says. “When you watch a parody in porn, it gives you something familiar or similar to what you’re used to, so if I were a brony, I would 100 percent go watch the movie, because it’s similar to My Little Pony, but there’s also nothing like it out there.”
But the big question remains: how do bronies feel about Tasha’s Pony Tales, or even the idea of a My Little Pony–themed mainstream porn? There’s a long, storied history of pony porn in the MLP fandom—those who enjoy MLP erotica are known as “cloppers,” a pony-themed play on “fappers.” They are sort of the black sheep in the community; there’s a fear that the small percentage of cloppers will give the rest of bronies a bad name by perpetuating the idea that the fandom totally derives from a sexual fetish.
“Cloppers take an innocent show and twist it around to strip it of its innocence like a rapist easily strips a woman of her virginity. … There is nothing worse in the fandom than a Clopper,” one brony wrote in a Debate.org forum. “They ruin the fandom. They ruin the community’s public image, and they think its funny/normal.”
This perhaps explains the overwhelmingly negative response to a press release for Reign’s film on the clop site Equestria After Dark (NSFW): “It’s literally just regular porn but with foam wings and pony ears,” one brony commented. “They’re just slapping ‘Bronies! Bronies!’ on it to get the fandom’s attention. It also helps account for the vitriolic reaction I got from a brony forum when I reached out through a brony to ask about Tasha’s Pony Tales (for the record, I’m female):
Not all MLP fans have reacted negatively to Tasha’s Pony Tales. “The first thing I thought when I finished Equestria Girls [A SFW, MLP animated film] was ‘Man, if only it had centaur love juice acquisition as a sub plot, then it would be perfect!,’” one commenter wrote on fan site Obsession Is Magic. “As you can imagine, I’m quite pleased.”
Others hope a mainstream MLP porn outside the context of hand-drawn Rarity erotica will bring the faction of bronies who enjoy clop “from the shadows [out] and into a place of understanding by introducing more people to the idea of consensually exploring fantasy in a more colorful way,” Slantist recently wrote of Tasha’s Pony Tales.
While she says she hasn’t yet heard from bronies about her film, Reign understands why they would be hesitant to watch it or discuss it publicly. “They seem like they try to stay away from the sexual aspects of their fandom, because I feel like they think if they bring sexuality into it, people will judge them and say that’s what being a brony is all about, when it’s just an aspect of being a brony,” she says.
But she’s hopeful that they find the movie of their own volition, and find it as “playful, fun, and sex-positive.” An equestrian-themed fantasy as she intended it to be.
“People are close-minded. They shut themselves off to what they don’t understand,” she says. “But when you have the little ears on and the tail and stuff, there’s something very playful and submissive, at least for me, about dressing up in that type of gear. I think people love feeling like they’re somebody’s pony.”
