Australian porn star starts accepting Dogecoin

Since the dawn of Bitcoin, porn and cryptocurrencies have gone together like lamb and tuna fish (or spaghetti and meatball, if you’re more comfortable with that analogy). In an industry where consumers are primarily concerned with discretion, the anonymity offered by various cryptocurrencies has prompted many websites to start accepting Bitcoin and Litecoin (NSFW). But none have started taking Dogecoin—until now.

After soliciting input from fellow Dogecoin enthusiasts on r/dogecoin, the Australian porn star Angela White is in the process of setting up a payment system for the meme-inspired currency on her website.

“I believe cryptocurrencies may be the future of online purchases, especially for adult-related products where consumers are often concerned about anonymity,” White told the Washington Examiner of her decision to start accepting the cryptocurrency, adding, “Much fun. Such community. Wow.”

White’s odyssey through the Dogecoin universe started about a week and a half ago, when she posted a thread in r/dogecoin asking for help setting up her payment system:

Not everyone took her query seriously:

Some fellow Dogecoin enthusiasts actually offered White helpful advice, with some coders and developers offering to help her integrate the cryptocurrency into her payment system. “The Reddit community has been beyond helpful,” White told the Examiner. “I’m now going through all of the advice to figure out the best way to incorporate Dogecoin.”

Of course, should White be interested in accepting other, non Shiba Inu-inspired cryptocurrencies, it’s not like she’s short on options: Last year, an escort agency in the United Kingdom made headlines when it announced it would start accepting Litecoin from clients, and just last month, Porn.com’s Bitcoin sales skyrocketed to nearly 50 percent of their total transactions, thanks to a post on r/bitcoin. There’s also a cryptocurrency marketed specifically for the adult industry called Sexcoin, although it’s unclear at this point what its value actually is.

But for now, White seems content to sticking with Dogecoin, in part because of the strong community that’s developed around the cryptocurrency (it seems that other users have rallied around Dogecoin as well, or at least enough to cause the currency to “fork” last week due to its high transaction volume).

“I was never interested in any cryptocurrencies until Dogecoin made it fun and accessible,” White said. “There’s a community aspect to the Doge that I really like. The community doesn’t take itself too seriously despite Dogecoin becoming a serious currency.”

To sum up: Much porn. Such cryptocurrency. Wow.
