“I love watching bukkake,” Tammy Guetermann says at a house party in Rick and Morty. “I mean, like, I don’t know if I would personally ever do it.” In that moment, Tammy brought the representation every bukkake fan needed and deserved. They’re here, they’re smeared, and their cum stains aren’t going anywhere.

If you’re unfamiliar with bukkake, allow me to show you Wikipedia’s artistic interpretation of a bukkake scene. Or as the foundation aptly describes it, the “Wikibukkake.”
Pretty cool, right?
Of course, there is more to bukkake than just the act itself, and its history is as interesting as it is misunderstood. Whether you’re looking for hentai manga with some bukkake scenes or want to find out what the Los Angeles Police Department has to do with the genre, read on for everything you need to know about the internet’s favorite nut-busting circlejerk.
What is bukkake?
“Bukkake” (ぶっかけ) is a Japanese term meaning “splash on.” The word is derived from “bukkakeru” (打っ掛ける), which means “to splash” or “to shower.”
“Bukkake” is not an inherently sexual term. In Japan, “bukkake” is primarily associated with cuisine. “Bukkake is part of the name of dishes like bukkake soba, soba (buckwheat noodles) with dashi (broth) poured over them, and bukkake meshi,” according to sci.lang.japan’s FAQ.
Chances are, you stumbled across this article for a reason other than cooking Japanese food (and if that wasn’t the case, I am incredibly sorry). In the West, “bukkake” is best known as a sex act commonly found in online porn.
Bukkake porn involves a circle of people surrounding a recipient in the center. In most scenes, anywhere from a few to 100 cis men masturbate together until they are ready to orgasm, in which they ejaculate over the recipient. Queer variations of bukkake also exist. For instance, Debrah Ann’s clip “reverse bukkake” shows a group of women masturbating and squirting over a girl in the middle. Another clip, “Public Beach Lesbian Bukkake” by Adreena Winters, shows Phoenix Madina and Winters making out in a bukkake circle.
While porn’s staunchest critics are quick to claim bukkake is an inherently degrading and abusive act, ethical bukkake porn (as with any kind of ethical porn) is always shot with all performers’ safety and consent.

Where does bukkake come from?
Under chapter 22, article 175 of the Japanese Criminal Code, anyone who “distributes, sells, or displays in public an obscene document, drawing, or other objects” will be either imprisoned or fined. A century later, not much has changed legally, although porn creators have since created a shorthand for dealing with censorship. In the mosaic system for porn, participants’ genitals are obscured but the rest of their body remains intact. Creative alternatives to depicting obscenity exist, too. Tentacle porn, for instance, is a direct response to Japanese censorship. So is bukkake.
In the 1980s, the Japanese porn industry developed bukkake as a way to depict masturbation and ejaculation without outright showing penetration. Vice reports that the first bukkake appearance dates back to Japanese porn film Mascot Note from 1986, and the premise took off domestically from there. It’s unclear how the scenario reached America, given that Japanese porn was already filtering into the U.S. during the ’80s. However, Vice credits Jeff Steward’s JM Productions for popularizing bukkake in America one decade later, thanks to Steward’s 1998 series American Bukkake.
At the time, bukkake scenes were “difficult to shoot and really expensive” in the U.S., but their popularity made productions more affordable over time.
“The Japanese [industry’s] bukkake [scenes were] much better than what we originally shot, because we only had 10 or 15 guys. It’s got to be 20, 30, 40. But our shoots kept growing. The fans would say, ‘We want more guys,’” Steward told Vice. “People would tell their friends. It was like a punk show. Only certain people knew where it was.”
Bukkake was incredibly controversial when it was first introduced in American porn. In 2001, Salon called it “the deformed, molested stepchild of traditional smut,” arguing that the practice “was born in ancient Japan as punishment for adulterous women.” That same year, the LAPD raided JM Video Productions’ offices and hit the company with obscenity charges over American Bukkake 11 and Liquid Gold 5, the latter of which was a water sports flick. The charges were later dropped, but for a time, the adult industry avoided bukkake shoots out of fear their studios would face obscenity charges next.
Over time, new producers began creating bukkake videos again, and online porn piracy spread the scenario onto tube sites like Pornhub. Twenty years after American Bukkake hit U.S. shelves, bukkake is more popular than ever—and the adult industry looks radically different.
“I’m totally turned off of the porn industry today. There really isn’t any money in it anymore,” Steward told Vice. “As soon as you put [a bukkake film] out there, it’s up on the internet, and everybody’s getting it on these tube sites for free. So as much as I’d love to keep doing it, I’m not going to spend and lose money to make like three people happy.”
What’s a bukkake party?
As the name implies, a bukkake party is a real-life event where a group of people (usually men) surround a recipient in a circle and masturbate together until the receiver tells them to cum. In 2015, Vice’s Samantha Rea spoke with Sarah Jane, an adult film star and professional bukkake party attendee. Jane dictates the boundaries for play as the recipient. She instructs her play partners where to orgasm, and if a man asks to cum prematurely, she will tell him to wait, “and even if he’s bursting, he will.”
“They’re usually really quick,” Jane told Vice. “The guys come closer when they’re ready to cum. I’ll usually have two or three close to me and I talk dirty to them. They’ll be wanking on to my face. I don’t really do blowjobs if they’re not tested. I’ll just wank them. I’ve got magic hands.”
Getting ready for a party is relatively easy: Jane usually wears cheap prescription glasses to keep cum out of her eyes or alternatively tells men to orgasm “where and when,” such as on her breasts. Other than that, all she needs to do is “put a bit more make-up on” than usual, get tested regularly, and keep an eye out if one of her play partners needs to be tested for sexually transmitted infections. For the record, she says her bukkake party clients are “lovely.”
“Everyone’s very clean—you’ve got to respect each other when it comes to hygiene,” Jane told Vice.
Where can you find bukkake porn?
Enough history. Let’s get to the goods.
While few of the major studios dabble in bukkake, the biggest market is on ManyVids. The site’s bukkake tag, which features over 1,000 videos dedicated to the genre. This includes such studios as TexxxasBukkake and Berkshire Bukkake. While rare, gay bukkake porn can be found on ManyVids, including BukkakeBoy_18’s “Extreme Cum Explosion and Injection” and XXXleorex’s five-man orgy video with a gay bukkake scene.
If you’re looking for a fictional depiction of bukkake, Fakku hosts a lively bukkake hentai manga tag filled with all sorts of anime porn dedicated to the trope. Nutaku also offers a kinky monster girl-themed bukkake visual novel called Cum on! Bukkake Ranch!. Or consider checking out Literotica’s “bukkake” story tag or “gay bukkake” for erotica scenarios for queer men.
