Calling decidedly unpornly things “porn” is an annoying tech industry tic, right up there with describing cold slabs of gadgetry as sexy. While that gratuitous photo gallery of the new iPhone 6 is most certainly not porn, nor is the HD footage you shot with your new GoPro, this video, shot entirely by drones, puts the porn back in… porn. Behold the layered artistry of Drone Boning.
At first it seems like you’re watching Planet Earth shot by UAVs, but remain patient. Look closer. Shot in drone-crazed San Francisco, the video by Ghost+Cow Films displays not only the technical capabilities of high tech hardware in the style of so much so-called gadget porn, but also the natural gifts of a number of actors/lovers/surveillance targets as they celebrate drone technology au naturel.
We reached out to the John Carlucci, one half of Ghost+Cow Films about what was tricky in capturing Drone Boning’s sweeping flyover sex scenes, which were shot on a Panasonic GH4 capable of capturing 4K video. “The only technical challenge was being shut down on the beach, but luckily we got one shot off,” Carlucci said. “The rest was pretty easy, we got into a routine and had a good team that was fluid with the execution.
“We had look outs, a blanket team… we would just put them in place, fire up the drone, pull off the blankets and get the shot. The drone only gives you about 20 minutes flytime before the battery kicks out.”
