Harley Quinn has been having a moment. The (sometimes) villainous vixen currently has her own comics and her own animated TV series decidedly NOT for kids, she’s stolen the scene as part of the Suicide Squad, and she even got her own live-action movie with a number of killer costume changes. With Halloween coming up, there’s never been a better time to replicate a Harley Quinn look to go out on the town.
Whether you’re a bigger fan of Margot Robbie’s Harley or classic Harley, her relationship with the Joker or with Poison Ivy, there have never been more options to choose from—and every single one of them is as much sexy, crazy fun as the next.
Which Harley will you be?
1) Classic Harley Quinn
The red and black jester look is undoubtedly the most iconic take on Harley Quinn, as it’s a throwback to her very first appearance in Batman: The Animated Series, and has been revived several times throughout the years in both the comics and her current animated series. You can’t go wrong with a form-fitting classic. Since it’s so well-known, you can easily grab plus-size Harley Quinn costumes in this look as well.
2) Suicide Squad Harley Quinn
Margot Robbie’s first appearance as the love interest of Gotham’s Clown Prince of Crime has become fairly well-known in its own right. Her ripped threads and smudged makeup gives Hot Topic hot mess in the best of ways, and fortunately, it’s a pretty straightforward look to replicate.
You can keep things simple by picking up a pre-made costume that comes with almost everything you need, then grab a set of Harley’s tattoos (or her full makeup kit), some fishnet stockings, and temporary blue and pink hairspray for those pigtails. And don’t forget the baseball bat!
As a bonus, you can pair Suicide Squad’s Harley with a costume befitting Jared Leto’s Joker and let everyone know Daddy’s Lil Monster is already taken.
3) “Arkham City” Harley Quinn
Bring a video game fantasy to life with a Harley Quinn costume reminiscent of one of the darker iterations of the escape artist formerly known as Harleen Quinzel. This is probably the sexiest iteration of Harley on our list, with just a whiff of a bondage edge to her. Grab some black boots to round things out and your Halloween plans will definitely end with at least one request from someone who wants you to step on them.
4) Birds of Prey Harley Quinn
Harley got to put a whole wardrobe on display for Birds of Prey, keeping things chaotic and sexy at the same time. You have a few options if you want to throw it back to our girl’s fantabulous emancipation (such as the gold overalls, which also come in plus sizes), but her midriff-baring short shorts look is one of our faves.
No matter which you choose, you’ll also want to pick up her chain necklace, consider either tights or tattoos, and get that pink and blue hair ready. If you want to give off Harley at the Booby Trap battle vibes, an oversized mallet isn’t a bad idea, either.
5) The Suicide Squad Harley Quinn
The 2021 follow-up to just plain Suicide Squad gave Harley a bit more elegance than usual as she was wooed by a dictator determined to make her his bride. So if you need to keep it classy, look no further than Harley Quinn’s red dress costume for this Halloween. Add in some fake blood if your preference is post-kidnapping Harley, and as usual, don’t forget the tattoos.
Alternately, switch the whole thing out for Harley’s other Suicide Squad look, but either way, go with red and black hair dye for this one.
6) Gender Bent Harley Quinn
Clothes are clothes and a costume is a costume—any person of any gender can wear any look on this list. But if you’re wanting something reminiscent of Harley Quinn that accentuates all of your assets as a guy, fortunately, there’s a very, very skimpy outfit for that. Throw in some black gloves and Harley’s favorite bat to top things off before heading out on the town.
Whichever Harley Quinn costume catches your eye, keep it equal parts sexy and insane and you’ll have the whole of Gotham’s seedy underworld eating out of the palm of your hand in no time at all.
