Your late-night favs may have found a new home.
HBO announced this week that it’s moving on from the adult content that helped make it a go-to during late suburban ’90s nights. That includes documentary series like Real Sex and Taxicab Confessions, which streaming giant Pornhub wants to reboot. Pornhub also wants to stream the classics, it announced on Thursday.
“It’s a shame to see HBO rid itself of its late-night adult programming, and we consider classic shows such as Taxicab Confessions and Real Sex, among others, to be vestiges of a bygone era,” Pornhub Vice President Corey Price told Deadline. “We would like to extend an offer to help produce new seasons of the informative skin-baring programs and host them on our HD, on-demand platform Pornhub Premium … At the end of the day we’re all about penetrating new markets, and we’re excited to insert ourselves into this discussion and hopefully provide more compelling original content for our fans.”
On Aug. 27, both HBO Go and HBO Now pulled their “After Dark” titles, including series like Cathouse. “There hasn’t been a strong demand for this kind of adult programming, perhaps because it’s easily available elsewhere,” the cable network announced.
Pornhub may have a thing or two to do with the part about adult programming being widely available. More than 90 million visitors head to Pornhub daily, Deadline notes. It’s a sleeping giant as a streaming entertainment conglomerate: The site is safe to browse, sells security products, and even safe-for-work creators are experimenting with it as a YouTube-like platform.
If Netflix can reboot Full House and satisfy its internal metrics in the process, Pornhub and Pornhub Premium should have no issue following a similar business model.
