As President Trump’s government shutdown trudges on toward the month mark, circumstances for federal workers across the country are looking pretty grim. Furloughed employees are struggling to pay rent and make basic ends meet, and food lines federal workers in Washington, DC resemble something right out of the Great Depression. But on a more positive note, the vast amount of free time workers have in front of them has apparently led to a spike in traffic for NSFW website PornHub.
Analyzing the week of Jan. 7 to Jan. 11, Pornhub Insight statisticians have found that weekday traffic has increased, up nearly six percent in the United States, compared to traffic before the shutdown. Peak Pornhub traffic—or, “Fappy Hour,” as they call it—typically occurs between 10pm and midnight. But since employees no longer have a reason to get up early in the morning, late-night traffic has spiked a whopping 14 percent above average. According to a blog post from PornHub dated Jan. 17,
Those fluctuations are similar to other events (see Winter Storm Stella) when people tend to stay up later and sleep in when they don’t have to go to work in the morning. Afternoon traffic increased by as much a 7% above average at 1pm, when people would typically be at work.
Likewise, Pornhub’s overall average weekday on-site visit time has bumped up an average of 33 seconds, from 10 minutes and 37 seconds to 11 minutes and 10 seconds.
In Washington, DC with an overall spike in traffic up 6.32 percent, and late-night traffic up 12 percent. Traffic from female users in DC was up 12.3 percent above average, compared to 4.2 percent nationwide.
It’s unclear how long the shutdown will last; President Donald Trump is expected to address the nation about a shutdown deal at 3pm on Saturday.
