With Mother’s Day coming up, you might be wondering what exactly it is to be a mother. Just don’t ask Apple’s pottymouth creation Siri.
Earlier today, members of Reddit’s Apple community (r/Apple) discovered the voice assistant gave a NSFW answer when you asked it to define “mother.”
Its first response for the definition of the noun was perfectly vanilla: “A female parent; a woman, in relation to her child or children, or a female animal in relation to its offspring.” But things got weird once users asked it for the second definition.
“It means, short for motherfucker,” the robo voice said without a hint of regret.
The first response was confirmed by multiple news outlets and iPhone owners throughout the day. Here is a video of the embarrassing glitch (reminder: NSFW).
Apple appears to have fixed the problem. When we tried to replicate the bug, Siri stated for its second definition, “As a verb, it means to bring up a child, with care and affection.”
Let this be another reminder to keep your talking technology away from children.
